Intimidation tactics against the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement will not succeed, said Sarjis Alam, a key leader of the movement.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday morning, Sarjis expressed his support for ICT Adviser Nahid Islam, saying: "Nahid and Asif took to the streets prepared to sacrifice their lives.

Not even the brutal oppression of DGFI [Directorate General of Forces Intelligence] and DB [Detective Branch] could shake them. Hasnat and others committed themselves to the cause, knowing the risks, three months ago."

Sarjis, also the general secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, listed movement coordinators such as Mahin Sorkar, Abu Bakar Majumder, Abdul Kader, Rifat Rashid, and Abdul Hannan Masud, saying that threats would be ineffective against them.

"They took to the streets prepared to sacrifice their lives. Even the entire regime of Sheikh Hasina cannot divert them from their mission," Sarjis said.

He also touched on the topic of Jagannath University in his statement.

He said, "Their slogans were against the previous corrupt system. There may be disagreements among comrades, but that is not an issue. We believe that our struggle for justice on the streets will strengthen our unity within minutes."    —bdnews24.com
