Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has told the international community that safeguarding the environment requires a new lifestyle, which would not be imposed but rather chosen.

"Young people embrace this lifestyle as a choice. Each young person will grow up as a 'three-zero' individual - zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration by building social businesses only, and zero unemployment by becoming entrepreneurs," he said while delivering his speech at the 29th COP summit in Baku, Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
Presenting his 'three-zero' formula, he said,
"Each person will grow up as a three-zero individual and remain a three-zero individual throughout their life. This will create a new civilisation," the Nobel laureate said.

"It can be done. All we need to do is accept a new lifestyle that aligns with the safety of the planet and all who live on it," he continued. "Today's generation of youth will do the rest. They love their planet.

"I hope you'll join me in this dream. If we dream together, it will happen," Professor Yunus said as he presented the climate catastrophe from a different perspective.

"This perspective will take us from merely addressing climate destruction to stepping beyond further carnage. It is a vast task that raises significant questions. I seek your indulgence in sharing my longstanding dream of creating a new world of three zeroes," the interim government chief said.

The climate crisis is intensifying. Our civilisation is at grave risk as we continue to promote self-destructive values, he added.

"We need to mobilise our intellectual, financial, and youth power to lay the foundation for a new civilisation - a self-preserving and self-reinforcing civilisation," Professor Yunus said.

"We, the human inhabitants of this planet, are the cause of its destruction. We are doing it deliberately. We have chosen a lifestyle that works against the environment.

"We justify this with an economic framework considered as natural as the planetary system itself. This economic framework thrives on limitless consumption.

"The more you consume, the more you grow. The more you grow, the more money you make. Profit maximisation is treated as the gravitational force that keeps everything in the system functioning according to our desires," he said.

"In order to survive, we need to create another culture.

"A counter-culture based on a different lifestyle. One based on zero waste. It will limit consumption to essential needs, leaving no residual waste. This lifestyle will also be based on zero carbon - no fossil fuels, only renewables. It will be an economy driven by zero personal profit, centred on social business," he added.

"This business is defined as a non-dividend business aimed at solving social and environmental problems," he said.

A large part of social businesses will focus on protecting the environment and humanity. Human lives will not only be protected but also qualitatively enhanced through affordable healthcare and education, he added.

"It will encourage entrepreneurship among the youth. Young people will be prepared through a new education in entrepreneurship. Education focused on creating job seekers will be replaced by entrepreneurship-focused education," Dr Yunus said.
