NARAYANGANJ, Nov 13: Police have recovered a dismembered body, cut into seven parts and wrapped in polythene bags, from a lake in the Purbachal Suburb of Narayanganj's Rupganj Upazila.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, though police estimate he was around 40 years old.
Rupganj Police Station chief Liakat Ali said three polythene bags containing body parts were found on Wednesday afternoon near Sector No. 5, along the north side of the Kuril-Kanchan road.
According to locals, the gruesome discovery began when a rickshaw-puller noticed a foul smell while washing his hands in the lake near the Kanchan-Kuril road. Investigating further, he and others spotted several polythene-wrapped bags floating in the water. Police later arrived and retrieved the remains, which were sent to Narayanganj General Hospital.
"We believe the victim was killed at least three days ago. The body was dismembered, packed into polythene bags, and dumped in the lake. We are still missing two parts of his body despite thorough searches," said OC Liakat.
Criminal Investigation Department, or CID. and Police Bureau of Investigation, or PBI, officers have also collected evidence from the site. Legal action is currently underway, according to Liakat. —bdnews24.com
