The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Shahadat Hossain Dipu as the replacement for Najmul Hossain Shanto in the squad for the two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) matches against the West Indies.
Shanto sustained a groin injury during the second ODI against Afghanistan on November 9 despite scoring a match-winning 76 runs in that game. He subsequently missed the third ODI and on November 11, when the BCB announced the Test squad for the West Indies tour, Shanto was initially named as captain. However, the BCB medical team confirmed that Shanto would be unavailable for the tour due to his injury on the following day.
Dipu, 22, has already represented Bangladesh in 4 Tests and 3 T20i matches. He made his Test debut against New Zealand last year and played his most recent Test against Sri Lanka in March this year. Over his four Test appearances, he has scored 118 runs at an average of 14.75, with a highest score of 31.In the ongoing National Cricket League (NCL), he has scored 158 runs in six innings for Chittagong Division, averaging 26.33 and including a century knock of 116.
In addition to Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim will also miss the West Indies tour due to an injury sustained in the first ODI against Afghanistan, while Mustafizur Rahman has opted out of the tour.
The tour will feature two Tests, three ODIs and three T20i matches. The first Test is set to begin on November 22 in Antigua, followed by the second Test on November 30 in Jamaica. The ODIs are scheduled for December 8, 10 and 12, with the T20Is set for December 15, 17 and 19.
