Bangladesh Bank (BB) has fixed fees for income tax payments made through credit cards or debit cards, internet banking, and mobile financial services (MFS) or payment service providers (PSP).
As per a notification issued by the Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday, Tk 20 can be charged to a customer for payment of less than Tk 25,000 as income tax using cards and internet banking. The charge will be Tk 50 if the amount of income tax is higher than Tk 25,000.
A customer can be charged a fee of one per cent per transaction or a maximum of Tk 30 (including VAT) while paying income tax through MFS or PSP wallets.
The taxpayers were paying 1.6 per cent of their income tax as the charge for online payment before the issuance of the notification.
There will be no chargeback option for these transactions, the banking regulator said.
It said the charges are fixed to encourage taxpayers to use online payment channels for income tax filing.
The central bank issued the directive to all scheduled banks, MFS providers, PSPs, payment system operators, and international payment schemes in Bangladesh.
The online return filing system was launched by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for e-return taxpayers from September 9. Taxpayers are paying income tax through internet banking, debit and credit cards and mobile financial services (MFS) and payment service provider (PSP) wallets.
