The death toll from Sherpur road accident has risen to four as another injured succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Subina Begum, 20, wife of Raju Mia of Kaziyakanda village of Phulpur upazila in Mymensingh, her younger brother Tajen Mia, 15, son of Sultan Mia of Palashia village of Sherpur, Tayera Begum, 10, daughter of Tofazzal Hossain of Laudana village of Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona and Alauddin, 40, son of Abul Kashem of Sahapur village in Phulpur.
Earlier, three people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto rickshaw on the Sherpur-Dhaka highway in Paiska bypass area under Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Wednesday.
The accident occurred in the area when a Sherpur-bound pickup van collided head-on with a CNG- run auto rickshaw around 12:30 PM this afternoon, leaving two of the passengers dead on the spot and five other injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nakla Police Station Habibur Rahman said.
Locals rescued the injured persons and took them to Nakla Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment. However, one of the passengers died on way to the hospital and another died before reaching the hospital, said the OC.
Legal actions will be taken in this connection, the OC added.
