Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday that Shahadat Hossain Dipu will replace the injured Najmul Hossain Shanto in the squad for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.
Shanto, who has been the regular captain for Bangladesh, has been ruled out of the series after suffering a groin strain. His injury not only affects the team's leadership but also impacts their batting lineup. In his absence, the BCB called up Shahadat, a 22-year-old right-handed batsman from Chattogram Division, to join the squad.
Shahadat's consistent performances in domestic cricket have earned him this opportunity, and the Test series against the West Indies provides him with a significant chance to make his mark on the international stage.
Bangladesh will play two matches in the ICC World Test Championship against the West Indies, starting on November 22 in Antigua, followed by the second Test on November 30 in Jamaica. With Shanto sidelined, vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz will take on the role of captain for the series.
The full Bangladesh Test squad for the series is as follows:
Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque Showrab, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Litton Das (Wicketkeeper), Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Hasan Murad.
