Awami League leader Shahidul Islam Ratan, who has been arrested in a sabotage case, died in Bogura District Jail early Tuesday.
He died around 2AM while receiving treatment, Faruq Ahmed, superintendent of Bogura District Jail, confirmed.
According to Faruq Ahmed, Shahidul Islam Ratan, general secretary of the Awami League for ward no 15 in Bogura municipality, had been suffering from diabetes, respiratory problem and heart disease. He had recently been kept in the prison's medical ward and was given a nebulizer on Monday, but he passed away around 2AM.
His body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue in Bogura.
Ratan was arrested in October in connection with a sabotage case. Since then, he had been receiving regular medical care in the prison.
