Police have recovered the hanging body of a teen girl at Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district on Monday.
The incident took place on Monday around 5 PM at Abu Chowdhury Building in Schoolbari area of Kalishuri union.
Deceased, Lamia, 18, was daughter of Nasir Ukil from Keshabpur village, lived in a rented room on the third floor of the building with her 12-year-old sister, Laboni.
According to Lamia's cousin, Tarek Sikder, she had separated from her husband, a businessman from Ponahura village, two years ago. There were also rumors of a subsequent marriage to someone from Shariatpur district.
Laboni, a student at a local Hafezia Madrasa, had reportedly left for school in the morning, locking the door from outside when her sister did not wake up. Upon returning home in the afternoon, Laboni discovered Lamia's body hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf and screamed for help.
Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene and retrieved the body.
Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman from Bauphal Police Station said, "It is too early to draw any conclusions. The body will be sent to the morgue after further investigation."
