Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur has urged the banks to increase lending facilities in remote areas to promote financial inclusion and reduce inequality in access to financial resources.

"Similar to previous political centralisation, we've also seen concentration of the financial sector which should be stopped,” he said, reports BSS.

BB governor was addressing a discussion titled- “Inequality, Financial Crimes, and Healing Bangladesh's Economy” on the occasion of 3rd Bangladesh Economic Summit 2024 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel here today.

Ahsan H Mansur said that some 59 percent of bank loans were disbursed in Dhaka and 17 percent in Chattogram and others across the country.

Regarding recent policy rate hikes, Mansur said that Bangladesh's current macroeconomic challenges require this measure to curb high inflation and stabilise the economy.

"It will take at least eight more months to bring inflation down," he added.
