The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) matches against the West Indies on Sunday, naming Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain. However, the following day, the BCB medical team confirmed his unavailability for the tour.

Shanto sustained his groin injury during the second ODI against Afghanistan last Saturday and had to leave the field, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz stepping in as captain for the remainder of the match. Before the injury, Shanto managed to score a match-winning 76-run knock in that game.

To inform the update to media, BCB's chief physician Dr. Debashish Chowdhury said in an official statement, "An MRI of Shanto was done yesterday in Sharjah. We received the team physio's report, which indicates a grade two strain in his groin. He requires rest and rehabilitation to recover,"

"He will not only miss the third ODI against Afghanistan but also the Test series against the West Indies. After two weeks, we will reassess his condition. He will return to Bangladesh from the UAE to begin rehabilitation," Dr. Chowdhury added
The BCB has yet to announce Shanto's replacement and vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the team in the West Indies.

In addition to Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim will also miss the tour due to an injury sustained in the first match against Afghanistan, while Mustafizur Rahman has opted out of the tour.

The tour includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20i matches. The first Test will begin on November 22 in Antigua, followed by the second on November 30 in Jamaica. The ODIs are scheduled for December 8, 10 and 12, with the T20i matches set for December 15, 17 and 19.

SQUAD: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque Showrab, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Liton Kumer Das (WK), Jaker Ali Anik, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Hasan Murad.
