Four people including three minor children drowned in separate incidents in four districts - Natore, Barguna, Dinajpur and Kishoreganj, in four days.
BARAIGRAM, NATORE: A minor boy drowned in a pond in Baraigram Upazila of the district on Monday noon.
The deceased was identified as Arian Ahmed, 3, son of Alam Hossain, a resident of Tirail Village under Majhgaon Union in the upazila.
Local Union Parishad (UP) Member Moshtaq Ahmed said that Arian was playing on the house yard at noon. At one stage, he fell in a pond next to the house while his mother was busy with cooking.
Sensing the matter, the family members then rescued the child and took him to a local doctor, where he was declared dead, the UP member added.
TALTALI, BARGUNA: A forest guard drowned in a pond in Taltali Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Sakina Village under Sonakata Union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Shyamol Chandra Sarker, 55, son of late Shuklal Chandra Sarker, hailed from Munshichar Nikla area under Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka District. He was the father of a son and a daughter.
It was known that Shyamol drowned in the pond in Sakina Village at noon while he was bathing in it.
Later on, a child saw his floating body and informed the locals.
Being informed, the Forest Department, with the help of local people, took his unconscious body to Taltali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Sakina Beat Official of the Forest Department Md Mosharraf Hossain said that Shyamol Chandra started working here as a forest guard about 10 months back.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taltali Police Station (PS) Md Kalam Khan confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR: A one-and-a-half-year-old minor boy drowned in a pond in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The incident took place in Omarpur Village under the upazila at around 9:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Raihan, son of Mehedi Hasan and Rikta Akhter of the area.
Police and local sources said that Raihan fell in a pond next to the house in the morning while he was playing on its bank.
Later on, locals spotted his body floating on the water.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the pond.
Ghoraghat PS OC Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard.
KISHOREGANJ: A minor boy drowned in a pond in Tarail Upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mahmudul Hasan, 2, son of Shahinur, a resident of Sakandarnaga Haluapara Village under the upazila.
Local sources said that Mahmudul was playing near the house. At one stage, he fell in a pond next to the house.
Later on, he was rescued and taken to Tarail Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Tarail PS OC Mohamad Sohel confirmed the incident.
