The death toll from the fire at Azahar Filling Station at Rahmatpur Bypass in Mymensingh Sadar, has risen to five following the death of another victim.
Kamrul Hasan, 35, who owned a small restaurant next to the filling station, passed away Monday afternoon at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Earlier, four victims—Himel Munshi, 25, Abdul Kuddus, 80, Abul Hossain, 45, and Tofazzal Hossain, 42,—had succumbed to their injuries.
Two other victims, Sumi Akter, 30, and Abdul Malek, 50, remain in critical condition, with Sumi suffering burns over 32% of her body and Malek over 50%.
Nur Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Model Police Station and the case's investigating officer, confirmed Kamrul's death. He added that Kamrul had been transferred to Dhaka in critical condition with burns covering 100% of his body.
The fire occurred on November 4 around 2:45 PM, engulfing and destroying seven vehicles at the filling station. Himel Munshi's charred body was recovered from a private car at the scene.
In response, Himel's mother, Yeasmin alias Hena, filed a case on November 6, accusing six people, including the filling station owner Azahar, under charges of murder and explosives violations.
Despite the police's ongoing efforts, the suspects remain at large. Nur Hossain added that raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
