5 burnt in gas cylinder explosion at Kafrul

Five young people, including two couples, sustained burn injuries in gas cylinder explosion on the ground floor of a two-storey building at Kafrul in the capital on Sunday night.

The incident happened at the house in the New Bazar Steel Bridge area about 11:30PM.

Injured Rajib Miah, 21, his wife Sumi Akter, 18, Shahana Akter, 22, Sumon Miah, 25, and his wife Subona Mastafa, 22, were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Neighbour Asadul Mondal, who brought the victims to the hospital, said the explosion occurred when they tried to lit the stove for cooking.

Of the injured, Rajib Mia was admitted to the hospital with 6 per cent burns, Sumi 2 per cent, Shahana with 5 per cent, Suman with 3 per cent, and Subarna with 5 per cent burns, said Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the burn institute.
