The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with the United Nations for the high-level conference on Rohingya issue as proposed by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
Foreign Secretary and the Chair of the National Task Force on Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) Md Jashim Uddin said this during his visit to Cox's Bazar, according to our local correspondent.
During the visit, the Foreign Secretary held a consultation meeting with the local administration and key government agencies, however, the discussions in the meeting focused on conditions of the Rohingya camps and addressing issues impacting both the camps and the host communities.
The meeting highlighted the urgency of sustainable repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya to their homeland for social, ecological, and economic restoration in Cox's Bazar.
The humanitarian and security aspects of the camps featured prominently in the discussions.
The prolonged issue is further compounded by the recent arrivals of Rohingyas that are putting enormous pressure on the government in adopting feasible measures, the speakers noted.
The meeting was conducted by Mohammad Salahuddin, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Cox's Bazar.
This two-day visit (November 8-9) offered the Foreign Secretary the opportunity to directly observe the activities and coordination efforts of various agencies, including the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) and international partners, in responding to the Rohingya crisis.
The Foreign Secretary also had a separate meeting with the visiting Director-General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on the same day.
He also visited the Rohingya camps on Saturday accompanied by Md Mizanur Rahman, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, according to the orrespondent.
