JOYPURHAT, Nov 10: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a young man to life-term imprisonment for violating a girl after abduction in Kalai Upazila in 2018.
Joypurhat District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abdul Moktadir handed down the verdict in absence of the convict.
The condemned convict is Rubel Hossain, 27, son of Afsar Hossain, a resident of Madhai Village under Kalai Upazila in the district.
The tribunal also fined him Tk 50,000.
In another section, the youth was also sentenced 14 years' jail and fined Tk 25,000.
Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Advocate Feroza Chowdhury confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the girl went to Panchshira Bazar of Kalai from the house at around 9 am on July 27, 2018. At that time, Rubel abducted her and took the girl to a house in Mohasthan area in Bogura. He forcibly violated her there.
The victim's mother, being the plaintiff, lodged a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Kalai Police Station (PS) in this regard.
Investigation Officer of the case and Sub-Inspector of Kalai PS Abdus Shukur submitted the charge-sheet to the court on September 30 in 2018.
Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Thursday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
