SATKHIRA, Nov 10: A youth bond to demand climate justice was held in the district ahead of the upcoming climate conference (COP-29) on Sunday morning.

Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) and the Education, Culture and Diversity Protection Team jointly organized the event on the premises of Satkhira Central Shaheed Minar.

During this bond, the youth chanted slogans such as 'Shout from the coast, want climate justice', 'Climate justice is needed now', 'one world, one opportunity', 'No Planet B', 'Raise Global Climate Fund', 'Our Earth is Boiling', 'End Fossil Fuel', 'No More False Solution', 'Promote Agro Ecology', 'Our Seed Our Life', 'Justice Delayed Justice Denied', 'Protect the Planet', 'Our Future Our Choice', and 'Fight for Loss and Damage'.

They said, if global warming continues, the earth will become uninhabitable; human life will be at risk; in the meantime, hostile conditions have been created in life-nature, soil, water, health, agriculture and Sundarban; people of coastal areas are living a precarious life as they have lost their lands, houses and even their jobs; millions of people are becoming refugees due to various crises including climate change; and rich countries of the world should take responsibility for this.
Human rights activist Madhab Chandra Dutto presided over the programme while environment activist Principal Asek-e-Elahi, Professor Mozammel Haque, Joint Member Secretary of Satkhira Zilla-Nagorik Committee Ali Nur Khan Babul, President of Udhichi Sk Siddiqur Rahman, Member of Education Culture and Diversity Protection Team Musfiqur Rahim and Hridoy Mondal, and Associate Programme Officer of BARCIK Gazi Mahida Mizan spoke.
