CHATTOGRAM, Nov 9: A high level meeting will be held on Sunday at the Shipping Ministry in Dhaka to decide on the implementation process of the Bay Terminal. The meeting will also discuss maintenance and operation of other container terminals for under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) system, said Muhammad Omar Faruk, Secretary of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).
Brigadier General (Retd) M Shakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Shipping Ministry including the senior officials of CPA and other stakeholders and PPP Authority officials will attend the meeting, Faruk said.
The officials from the World Bank will also attend the meeting.
It is confirmed that the CPA is implementing a total of four projects under the Public Private Partnership system. The four projects include; Laldia Container Terminal, Bay Terminal (Terminal 1 &2), New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) including Overflow Container Yard (OCY) and Equip, Operate and Maintenance of Patenga Container Terminal.
The establishment and Operation of Laldia Container Terminal at Chattogram Port through PPP model is now undergoing feasibility study.
Besides, the construction of Bay Terminal (Terminal 1 &2), is also in the feasibility study stage where TA has submitted a feasibility study report which are under review by the PPP Authority currently. The project will be implemented under the G2G guidelines with the government of Singapore and the government of UAE (DP world- Dubai based state owned company) respectively for Terminal-1 and Terminal-2.
The operation and Maintenance of New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) including Overflow Container Yard (OCY) is also in the feasibility study stage. It will be implemented under G2G guideline with the government of UAE (DP world- Dubai based state owned company).
The Equip, Operate and Maintenance of Patenga Container Terminal project is in the operation stage which was implemented under G2G guidelines with the government of the KSA.
The private partner RSGT Bangladesh Ltd. is in charge of the operation.
Meanwhile, the World Bank approved $650 million in loan support last June for the construction of the channel and breakwater.
The Bay Terminal project, PSA Singapore Container Terminal-1 will be constructed with an investment of $1.5 billion, and DP World Container Terminal-2 will also be built with an investment of $1.5 billion.
Furthermore, recently the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Bangladesh Abdulla Ali Abdulla AlHmoudi said that the DP World, one of the world's largest port operators, and Abu Dhabi Ports are interested to invest in Chattogram port to help boost the country's export competitiveness to the world.
The UAE is very keen to invest in Bangladesh's logistics, ports, aviation and renewable energy sector and expressed readiness to support the interim government of the country.
