Police have recovered the body of a lawyer from his residence in Mulatol Bank Colony area under ward No 20 in Rangpur city on Saturday.
The discovery was made early Saturday morning, around 1:30 AM.
The deceased, Mostakim Islam, 37, son of Khademul Islam from Taxer's Hat in Badarganj, lived in the house with his wife, Rimu Begum.
The victim's younger brother, Sohan, who also lived separately in the same residential unit, said that Mostakim's wife had gone to visit her parents four days prior, and the couple did not have any children. On Friday night, when Sohan repeatedly called his brother for dinner and received no response, he broke into the room and found Mostakim lying on the floor. A scarf was tied to the ceiling fan above the bed. Sohan immediately informed the police.
Confirming the incident, Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Ataur Rahman said, "We received the information shortly after midnight and found the body on the second floor of the residence. We recovered it and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. There were marks around Mostakim's neck consistent with strangulation, but we are still investigating whether this was a case of homicide or suicide."
An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident, and police are investigating further, he added.
