Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested a youth along with six gold bars weighing 1 kg 108 grams 150 milligrams along Satkhira border on Saturday.
The detention took place on Saturday at around 8 AM.
Md. Rashedul Islam, 24, from Keragachi village under Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira, was arrested from Goalchattar Bazar area, approximately five kilometers inside Bangladesh from the border pillar 13/3-S 6 R. B under the responsibility of Satkhira Kakdanga BOP.
BGB Satkhira Battalion-33 Commander Lt. Col. Md. Ashraful Haque confirmed the matter and said that based on secret information they were informed that gold would be smuggled to India through Kakdanga border. Being tipped-off, a special operation team led by Nayek Md. Hormuz, a member of the SIP of Kakdanga BOP, strategically positioned itself at the said location. At that time, when the smuggler attempted to cross the border in a van, the special operation team stopped him, searched his body and recovered 6 gold bars.
The estimated market value of the recovered gold is Tk 1 crore 34 lakh 86 thousand 186 taka.
A case was filed at Kalaroa Police Station in Satkhira and the gold bars have been deposited at the Satkhira Treasury Office, added the BGB official.
