Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a youth along with six gold bars weighing around 1103.15 grams from Kakdanga border in Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira district on Saturday.
The arrested man is Rashedul Islam, 24, son of Md. Anis Zaman of Keragachi village in the upazila.
BGB Satkhira 33 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashraful Haque said in a press release that it had secret information that a gold consignment would be smuggled from Bangladesh to India through Kakdanga border.
Based on the information, an operational team of the BGB led by Naib Subedar of Kakdanga Md. Hormuz of Kakdanga BOP conducted a raid there.
At that time, van puller Rashedul was arrested from the Goalchattar Bazar area around 8am on Saturday while moving suspiciously.
Later, his body was searched and six gold bars and a mobile phone were recovered from his body.
The weight of recovered gold is around 1103.15 grams and market value is at about Taka 1 crore 36 lakh 86 thousand and 186, said commanding officer of the BGB 33 battalion Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque.
Legal procedures are under process in this regard, he added.
