BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman on Friday said, "Conspiracy of the anti-democratic evil forces has going on, but in any condition this interim government must not be allowed to fail."

Speaking virtually at the grand rally in front of the BNP Naya Paltan party office marking "National Revolution and Solidarity Day" on November 7 he said, "I am reminding the freedom-loving people and urge them to remain vigilant and cautious. Conspiracy of anti-democratic forces has not stopped. The accomplices of the exiled autocrats are still present at home and abroad, in governance and administration. They are actively working to undermine the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government."

Tarique renewed his party's support for the interim government and said, "This interim government must not be allowed to fail under any condition."

"However, if it wants to remain vigilant, the interim government must take effective steps to meet the expectations of the people. This is what the public desires today," he said.

He said that today's procession of millions in the capital Dhaka is a march to educate the pro-Bangladesh forces in the underlying teachings of November 7, and he thanked the public who participated in the march, inspired by the lessons of November 7.

After his speech, he inaugurated the post-rally procession at 3:30pm. The procession paraded through Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban, Institution of Engineers, Shahbagh, Hotel Inter Continental, Banglamotor, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate and ended at Manik Mia Avenue.

Tarique said, "November 7, 1975, was the day to distinguish between friends and enemies, and August 5, 2024, was the day to identify enemies."

"I have said before that if the pro-Bangladesh forces stay united, no one will be able to jeopardise the country's independence," he said.

Tarique emphasised that it is crucial for every citizen to elect their representatives through their votes to ensure that fascism never returns to Bangladesh.

"As long as people's representatives in the local governments or the central government do not dependent on the people's vote, the people will not be able to fully enjoy the benefits of democracy," he said.

He congratulated the people of the country and the students for ending fascism through a successful popular uprising.

Tarique said, "Even in an environment free from autocracy or fascism, it will be impossible to rid low-income people of the curse of market syndicates if we do not ensure the direct rights of the people."

BNP's headquarters at Naya Paltan was filled to the brim with leaders and activists who gathered to attend the event. They started gathering at the venue from 12:30pm.

Tens of thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies, many of them wearing colourful caps, assembled at Naya Paltan since noon, prepared to participate in a large-scale showdown.

Streets and alleys from Kakrail Mosque to Fakirerpool and adjoining areas were packed with BNP supporters, causing traffic disruption in the area.

Carrying banners, festoons, placards, and portraits of the party's top leaders, BNP activists chanted slogans demanding elections and the withdrawal of cases against senior party leaders, including Tarique Rahman.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir concluded the rally with a brief address at Manik Mia Avenue at around 6:30pm.

Fakhrul said although Sheikh Hasina fled the country during the uprising, her cohorts are still lurking everywhere, ready to harm Bangladesh in various ways.

He said, "Nefarious efforts to destroy Bangladesh must be resisted by strengthening national unity. No dictator will be allowed to strip the people of their rights again. Let us unite and ensure that only democracy will prevail in Bangladesh."
