Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted the need for united efforts to turn St. Martin's Island into a plastic-free paradise.
Speaking at a webinar titled "Introduction to What is Possible for St. Martin's Island: A Plastic-Free Paradise" on Thursday, she emphasised that achieving a sustainable, eco-friendly future for the island requires collective action from all sectors of society.
The webinar, hosted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Department of Environment, focused on reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable practices to protect the island's unique ecosystem.
Key speakers included Abdul Hamid, Director General of the Department of Environment, Raquibul Amin of IUCN Asia, and other experts in plastic reduction and environmental conservation.
With around 90 participants, the event encouraged lively discussions on practical solutions to reduce plastic waste and support eco-conscious tourism.
Experts shared strategies to minimize plastic use and emphasised the importance of responsible tourism to preserve the island's biodiversity.
Both the IUCN and the Department of Environment reaffirmed their commitment to making St. Martin's Island a model of environmental sustainability, urging collaborative efforts to create a cleaner, greener future for the island.
