Two siblings among 5 people killed in road accidents

At least five people were killed including two siblings and several others injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla, Lakshmipur and Manikganj on Friday. 

Our Cumilla Correspondent reports two siblings were killed and three others injured as a bus hit them on the Cumilla-Sylhet regional highway in the Chagura area under Debidwar upazila here.
The deceased are Junayed, 12, and his sister Fahima Akter, 9. Both of them are the children of Jahangir Alam of Hossainpur village under Debidwar upazila of the district.

The accident occurred in the area when they were going to Sogura from Hossainpur on an auto-rickshaw. On the way, a Cumilla-bound bus of New Sugandha Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw in the Chagura area around 8:30pm last night, leaving Junayed dead on the spot and four others, including father of the two children, injured, said Superintendent of Police of Cumilla Region of Highway Police Khairul Alam. Of the injured, Fahima Akter died on the way to a hospital. The bodies were sent to Cumilla Hospital for postmortem examination, he added.

Our Lakshmipur Correspondent writes an auto-rickshaw driver was killed and another injured when a truck hit the auto-rickshaw in Joksin Bazar under Sadar upazila of the district on Friday. 

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher, 50, son of Aziz Ullah, resident of Laharkandir under Sadar upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Md Abdul Monnaf said the accident occurred in the area when they were going to Joksin Bazar on a battery-run auto-rickshaw. On the way, a truck hit the battery-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction around 4:00am, leaving the duo seriously injured. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital, where on-duty doctor declared Abu Taher dead, the OC said. Another seriously injured person was taken to Noakhali General Hospital for better treatment.

Our Manikganj Correspondent adds two youths were killed and another critically injured in a collision of a pickup van and a motorcycle in Singair upazila of Manikganj on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Badhan, 18, son of Nur Hossain from Itora village in Singair, and Ratul Hossain, 25, son of the late Panku Miah from Garpara Union in the district's sadar upazila.
