Bangladesh's national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has given a free ticket to a student critically injured during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement protests so that he can be flown from Dhaka to Thailand's Bangkok for advanced treatment.
The student, who was injured during the protests that led to a mass uprising, was identified as Nabil Ahmed.
Nabil was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka after he was shot during the protests, Biman said in a statement on Friday.
At the request of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, special arrangements were made for Nabil to take Biman's Dhaka-to-Bangkok flight for advanced medical care. The airline has also provided the ticket for an attendant and covered the cost of a stretcher service.
Due to his condition, special assistance was arranged for Nabil at the Dhaka and Bangkok airports.
Previously, on Oct 20, Biman had transported highly sensitive corneal tissue from Nepal to Bangladesh free of charge so that transplant surgeries could be performed on two people who suffered eye injuries during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
After they were brought to Dhaka from Kathmandu by Biman flight BG-372, the corneal tissue was handed over to representatives of the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital. —bdnews24.com
