Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, co-chairman of Jatiya Party and former Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation, has referred to Gono Odhikar Parishad, led by former Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, as a "parasitic party."
He made these remarks during a activists' gathering organized by the Jatiya Party's district and metropolitan units on Friday at Central Road in Rangpur.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Mostafa stated, "Jatiya Party is not an ant but an eagle. Those plotting against us should be cautious. Jatiya Party is not a small organization; it is a 42-year-old party that has successfully governed the country for nine years. No election in this land will take place without its involvement. We will resist any conspiracy from the streets."
The former Rangpur City Mayor emphasized that the meeting aims to reorganize Jatiya Party at the grassroots level and strengthen its organizational structure. He urged members to prepare for council meetings and to establish strong committees in each ward, union, and upazila. "Our organizational strength in Rangpur is solid, and we can paralyze the city if called upon," he warned.
Mostafa also addressed those conspiring against Jatiya Party, both within and outside political circles. "Rangpur is our stronghold, the legacy of Hussein Muhammad Ershad. Any attempt to conspire against us will be met with strong resistance. We are ready to sacrifice our blood to advance the politics of Jatiya Party," he declared.
Referring to VP Nur's Gono Odhikar Parishad as a "parasitic party with no real strength," Mostafa remarked, "We don't have time to account for that party. They attacked our offices in Dhaka and Khulna. If they dare to come to Rangpur, they won't leave unscathed. Rangpur is our fortress, and no one has the power to break it. We will confront them on the streets."
The meeting was presided over by SM Yasin, General Secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan Jatiya Party and a member of the party's Presidium. It was attended by several other prominent party leaders, including Vice Chairman Azmal Hossain Lebu, Central Organizing Secretary Lokman Hossain, and Cultural Secretary Zahedul Islam. Representatives from youth and volunteer wings, as well as local committee members from Rangpur, were also present.
The event witnessed significant participation from leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party’s metropolitan and district branches, along with members from affiliated and associated organizations.
