A youth was brutally murdered reportedly by unknown assailants in Ghoshpara under Ataikula Police Station in Santhia upazila of Pabna on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Asif, 32, son of Aslam Kasai from Pirpur area in the upazila.

According to locals, Asif, who he had been mentally unstable for some time, found his throat was slit and parts of his body had been mutilated.

The gruesome discovery was made on Friday (November 8) around 8 AM near the western side of Akij Jute Mill in Ghoshpara.

Upon being informed, police arrived and recovered the body at 11 AM.

Reports from locals and police indicate that Asif had been married in the Gangaram area about four years ago, but the marriage ended a year ago due to his mental health issues. He had recently returned home after four months of treatment at the Pabna Mental Hospital. On Thursday evening, Asif attended an Islamic religious gathering in Kacharapur. After leaving the event, he was seen visiting his former wife's relatives. They reportedly called Asif's family, asking them to take him away. The next morning, news of his murder spread.

Asif's younger brother, Nirab Hossain, expressed his grief and demanded justice. "My brother left home yesterday morning, attended the religious event, and never returned. We found his lifeless body the next day. He was killed in a premeditated manner. We want the culprits to be caught and brought to justice."

Ataikula Police Station officer-in-charge Habibur Rahman told that the body was sent to Pabna General Hospital ,orgue for an autopsy.

"We are still investigating the incident and working to uncover the motive behind this heinous crime," he added.
