CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Nov 8: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a man to 15 years' imprisonment in a case under the Arms Act filed in 2022.
Judge of Special Tribunal-1 in Chapainawabganj Md Mizanur Rahman pronounced the verdict in the afternoon in absence of the convict.
The convicted person is Jony Rahman, 36, son of Qurban Ali, a resident of Alinagar Mokrampur Village under Gomastapur Upazila in the district.
According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive in Bongpur intersection area under Rohanpur Municipality in Gomastapur Upazila of the district on January 31, 2022, and arrested Jony along with three one shooter guns.
On February 1, 2022, Sub-inspector Abu Sabbir Rabu of RAB filed a case against him with Gomastapur Police Station (PS).
Investigating Officer of the case Inspector Dilip Kumar Das of Gomastapur PS submitted the charge-sheet to the court against Jony Rahman on February 24 in 2022.
Following this, the court handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
