Two siblings were killed and three others, including the father of the two children, were injured being hit by a bus in Cumilla on Thursday.
The accident took place at night in Chagura area of Devidwar on the Cumilla-Sylhet regional highway.
The dead were Junayed, 12, and his sister Fahima Akter, 9, children of CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver Jahangir Alam of Hossainpur village under Debidwar upazila.
Jahangir Alam, the father of the children, said, 'I was taking them to their maternal house around 7:30 pm on Thursday after driving my auto-rickshaw all day. On the way, a Cumilla-bound sitting service bus ran over our auto-rickshaw. Junaid and Fahima fell on the road. Junaid died on the spot. Later, Fahima also died on the way to hospital.
Debidwar Police Station Inspector Shahinul Islam said after the accident, people vandalized five buses of New Sugandha Paribahan. Agitated people were calmed down by staying at the spot till 1 am.
Highway Region Cumilla Police Super Khairul Alam said that auto-rickshaws and buses have been brought to the police station. The bus driver fled. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
