Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has deposed for the first time in a case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal.
He appeared before the Tribunal on Thursday to give his statement. This marked the first time a government official had testified in a case related to the July-August genocide.
According to several prison sources, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun can be a witness to the massacre. Finally, although Chowdhury Mamun is not an approver, he can give a confessional statement under section 164.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested from Uttara on September 3. He was remanded for 66 days in 17 cases at several police stations.
Previously, on October 30, media reports indicated that former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun might testify as a public witness in the genocide case. This information was shared by prison sources at the time.
However, the final determination on this matter will depend on the tribunal's further instructions. Even if he does not testify as a public witness, it was anticipated that he could provide a confessional statement under Section 164.
