The Jagannath University (JnU) chapter of Chhatra Dal on Thursday present 21-point reforms proposal to improve student welfare and university governance.
The proposals include recovering illegally occupied dormitories within two months or providing alternative rented accommodations to students.
Chhatra Dal demanded construction of least three or four new dormitories on the second campus of the university within one year.
The demands were presented at a press conference held at the university's Kathaltola.
The press conference began with welcoming remarks of JnU Chhatra Dal Secretary Sujan Molla.
Asaduzzaman Aslam, President of the JnU Chhatra Dal, presented the proposals.
Earlier, the group submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Rezaul Karim, outlining its reform agenda.
One of the central proposals is to make JnU autonomous, with two pro-vice-chancellors by amending university regulations.
In addition, Chhatra Dal demanded compilation of a list of individuals involved in attacks on students within 10 days and take punitive action against them.
It also called for the publication of a list of politically appointed staff members and their dismissal and legal proceedings against them.
The demands included speedy completion of a new cafeteria, establishment of food courts at multiple locations on the campus, increasing internet speed at the lone female dormitory, and collaboration with banks to build a modern Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
Chhatra Dal also demanded construction of gates at Ray Saheb Bazar, Banglabazar, and Patuatuli to enhance campus identity.
Chhatra Dal also demanded modernisation of the e-library, creation of an academic website and promoting collaboration between industry and the academia.
Chhatra Dal called for coexistence of student organisations, formation of a student council, increased research funding and recruitment of research assistants.
