A pregnant housewife was allegedly beaten to death over a family dispute in Dhaka's Dhamrai on Thursday.
The incident took place in the morning at Paikpara village under Khanaria Union in Dhamrai.
The victim Kulsum, 30, wife of Yar Hossain of that area, was four months' pregnant.
The victim's brother Iqbal Hossain filed a case against four people with Dhamrai Police Station in this connection. Police arrested a woman.
The arrested woman is Amina, 60, a resident of Bannakhola area of Kushura union in Dhamrai. She is the maternal grandmother-in-law of the victim. 10 to 12 days ago she came to visit her daughter's house.
Besides, the other accused in the case are the victim's mother-in-law Surya Banu, 45, sister-in-law Yasmin, 19, and father-in-law Aynal Pagla, 55.
According to the case statement, a quarrel started between the victim Kulsum and her mother-in-law Surya Banu when Kulsum's chicken went to Surya Banu's kitchen. Later, during an argument, the accused strangulated and beat Kulsum to death.
According to police, on information, the body was recovered from the spot and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.
Dhamrai Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Azaharul said legal action is under process in this regard.
