A Jubo Mohila League leader who is an accused of Md Shamim Howlader murder case at Mirpur during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has been arrested by police in the capital.
Julia Akter was arrested by Rupnagar police conducting raid at Road No. 23 of Rupnagar Residential Area on early Wednesday.
She is the general secretary of Ward No. 7 of Rupnagar Thana Jubo Mohila League.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s Media Division's deputy commissioner Mohammad Talebur Rahman confirmed it on Wednesday night.
Rupnagar Police Station sources said Samrat Howlader, cousin of Md Shamim Howlader, filed a murder case with Rupnagar Police Station on September 15 last in connection with Shamim's murder at Rupnagar area in the capital. It was stated in the case statement that thousands of people brought out procession in support of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Proshika crossing of Rupnagar area in the afternoon of July 20 last. At that time, leaders and workers of different sister organisations of Awami League opened fire on the students and people. Being shot in his chest, Shamim Howlader was critically injured. After injured Shamim was rushed to the emergency department of Shaheed Suhrawardi Hospital, the on-duty doctors pronounced him as dead.
Police said legal process was going on against the Jubo Mohila League leader.
