Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Awami League presidium member and former minister Amir Hossain Amu from Dhanmondi in the capital on Wednesday.
Rezaul Karim Mallik, Chief of the DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrest. He will be produced before a court and remand has been sought for him after formally showing him as arrested in one of the cases.
Several cases were filed against him with different police stations in connection with the July-August mass killings.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the arrest in a brief message.
Amu, a former Jatiya Sangsad member from Jhalokati-2 constituency, also served as the minister of industries of the then Awami League government during 2014-2019. He was elected member of parliament six times from the Jhalokathi-2 constituency.
He was holding the position of coordinator and spokesman for the Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance.
