BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has congratulated Donald Trump for his historic victory in the US presidential election.
"We look to a future of strengthened ties and collaboration between our two nations,” Tarique, also elder son of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman, said on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday.
This victory demonstrates America's robust democratic processes, said Tarique, now staying in London.
"The people of Bangladesh are eager to move forward with their own free and fair elections, and cement our shared commitment to democratic values and fundamental freedoms," he added.
Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, marking an extraordinary comeback for a former president.
He refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the US Capitol, was convicted of felony charges, and survived two assassination attempts.
