The Advisers Council Committee meeting on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday approved separate proposals for procuring two cargos of LNG, 50,000 tonnes of wheat, 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice and 30,000 tons of fertilizer to meet the growing domestic demand.
Adviser on the Ministries of Finance and Commerce Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting and approved a proposal from the Ministry of Food to procure some 50,000 tonnes of wheat from M/S Agrocorp International Pte Ltd, Singapore under Open Tender Method (OTM) at around Taka 180.82 crore where per tone would cost US$301.38.
In response to another proposal the government would procure some 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Pattabhi Agro Foods Private Limited, Velpur, India under Open Tender Method (OTM) at around Taka 286.20 crore where per tonne rice would cost $477.
The committee approved a proposal from Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar for fiscal FY25 with around Taka 140.28 crore at per ton fertilizer costing $389.67.
Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the committee approved procurement of one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S Total Energies Gas & Power Limited, Switzerland at around Taka 618.89 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.12. One LNG cargo is equivalent to around 3.36 million mmBtu (metric million British thermal units).
Under another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the government would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte. Ltd. Singapore at around Taka 635.44 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.47.
The committee approved a proposal of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to procure some 5,000 tonnes of sugar from City Sugar Industries Limited under local Open Tender Method (OTM) at around Taka 60.45 crore at per kg sugar taka 120.90.
The ACCGP meeting also approved a proposal of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to procure 'Works for upgradation or construction of landing stations including necessary infrastructure at ilIisha (Bhola), Monpura, Bankerhat, Daulatkhan and Tojumuddin under Bangladesh Regional Inland Waterway Transport Project-1 from ML-TBL JV at a cost of Taka 150.98 crore.
The meeting also approved another BIWTA proposal to procure "Works for upgradation/construction of landing stations (Launch Ghats) including necessary infrastructure at Moju Chowdhury, Motirhat, Tomuruddin and Boddarhat under Bangladesh Regional Inland Waterway Transport Project-1 from Sheltech-Banga-Niaz (JV) Bangladesh at a cost of Taka 112.27 crore.
