Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi hit fifties to lead their side to 235 in the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
After the hosts were reduced to 71-5 in 20 overs, Nabi and Shahid put on a 104-run partnership for the sixth wicket to rescue the Afghans.
Nabi scored 79-ball 84 with four boundaries and three maximums, while skipper Shahidi's 52 helped to post a decent total.
A 28-ball 27 from tailender Nangeyalia Kharote gave the Afghans a late boost.
Bangladesh pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets apiece, while Shoriful Islam scalped one.
