The inaugural Weekend Film Challenge Dhaka, organized by the Doha-based Short Film Lab (SFL) and sponsored by Excelerate Energy, concluded with a packed screening and awards ceremony on October 26.
Held in Dhaka, this unique event challenged local filmmakers to create impactful short films in just 48 hours, with each team tackling the critical theme of climate change.
The Short Film Lab, a community-driven initiative led by founder and creative director Dr. Mohanalakshmi Rajakumar, aims to foster storytelling and film production in emerging regions. The event was supported by SFL alumni Ella Riddle and Sara Eassa, students in Qatar, whose involvement highlighted the cross-cultural collaboration at the heart of the initiative.
Excelerate Energy, a major U.S.-based LNG supplier with operations in Bangladesh, sponsored the challenge as part of its commitment to promoting local talent and supporting educational programs in its operational regions. Country Manager Habib Bhuiyan attended the awards ceremony, emphasizing the company’s dedication to empowering communities and nurturing future generations.
