Lightning kills three in Bhola, Noakhali

Three people including a teenage girl were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in two districts - Bhola and Noakhali, on Tuesday.

CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: A teenage boy and a man were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in Char Fasson Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incidents took place in the afternoon in Paschim Ewajpur Village under Ewajpur Union and Char Fakira Village under Hazariganj Union of Shashibhushan Police Station (PS) in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Shihab, 13, son of Rafizal Majhi, a resident of Char Fakira Village under Hazariganj Union, and Mosharef Hossain Liton, 35, of Ewajpur Union under Shashibhushan PS.

According to police and local sources, Liton was feeding grass to cows on the house yard during the storm in the afternoon. Thunderbolt struck on Liton at that time, which left him critically injured. 

The family members then rescued him and took to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Liton dead.

Meanwhile, in the same afternoon, Shihab took shelter in the boat anchored at Mainuddin Fishing Ghat of Char Fakira Village during the storm. At that time, he was critically injured after being hit by lightning. 

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to to Char Fasson Upazila Health Complex, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Shasibhushan PS Tariq Hasan confirmed the incidents.

HATIYA, NOAKHALI: A teenage girl was killed by lightning strike in Hatiya Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in West region of Ward No. 4 under Nijhumdwip Union under the upazila at around 11 am.

The deceased was identified as Sumi Akhter, 10, a resident of Mukhtijoddha Bazar area in the upazila.

Local sources said that a streak of lightning struck her while she was cutting branches from a tree next to the house in the morning, which left her dead on the spot. 

Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Milton Chakma confirmed the incident.
