Six people including two minor children have been killed and at least eight others injured in separate road accidents in five districts - Bagerhat, Gopalganj, Jhalakathi, Gaibandha and Barishal, in four days.
BAGERHAT: A young man was killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the district town on Tuesday night.
Three people including two policemen were also injured at that time.
The accident took place in Khardwar area on the VIP road in the town at around 9:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Tarif Hossain, 27, son of Md Feroze, a resident of Harinkhana area in the town.
The injured persons are: Mahir and Israfil, constables of Mollahat Police Station (PS), and Rubel of Dashani area.
Local sources said that two motorcycles collided head-on in Khardwar area on the VIP road at around 9:30 pm, which left four people of both motorcycles seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor shifted them to Khulna Medical Hospital (KMCH) for better treatment.
Later on, Tarif succumbed to his injuries at the KMCH while undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar Model PS Saidur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
GOPALGANJ: A minor boy was killed after being hit by an easy-bike in Kotalipara Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place on the Pashchimpar-Shuagram road beside Boro Dakshinpar Mosque of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Arian, 5, son of A Haque Mia, a resident of Boro Dakshinpar Village.
It was known that a speedy easy-bike hit Arian near Boro Dakshinpar Mosque in the morning while he was crossing the road, which left him critically injured.
Injured Arian was then rescued and taken to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kotalipara PS Kajal confirmed the incident, adding that no complaint is received from the deceased's family members yet in this regard.
Legal action would be taken if any written complaint is received, the SI added.
JHALAKATHI: Two individuals were killed and at least five others injured in a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a pickup van in Rajapur Upazila of the district on Monday noon.
The accident took place in front of Pingri Secondary School along the Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional highway under the upazila at around 12:30 pm.
One of the deceased has been identified as Altaf Hossain, 50, son of Momin Fakir from Mehendiganj upazila, while the identity of another could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Rajapur PS OC Md Ismail Hossain said that a passenger-carrying CNG-run three-wheeler was travelling towards Rajapur from Barisal at noon. On the way, the three-wheeler collided with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction in front of Pingri Secondary School at around 12:30 pm, which left two people dead on the spot and five others injured.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene and sent those to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex, said the OC.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
Rajapur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Abdul Khalek said that the accident temporarily halted traffic on the Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional highway for half an hour.
The road was cleared and traffic restored with the help of army and police personnel.
GAIBANDHA: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident in Gobindaganj Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place on the Bogura-Rangpur Highway in Bakchar area in the upazila in the evening.
The deceased was identified as Russel Mia, son of Dula Mia, a resident of the upazila. He was a first year honours student of Zoology Department at Syed Ahmed College in Gabtali of Bogura.
The deceased's family sources said that Russel went to Fashitala Market of the upazila in the evening riding on a motorcycle.
On his way back, his bike lost control over its steering and hit the concrete cement blocks used for the road construction in Bakchar area. As a result, the motorcycle twisted and he sustained serious injuries in his head.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead.
Gobindaganj Highway PS OC Mozaffar Rahman confirmed the incident.
BARISHAL: A madrasa student was killed in a road accident in Wazirpur Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The accident took place in Narayanpur area on the Barishal-Banaripara road under Guthia Union of the upazila at around 3:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Mubin, 9, son of Babul Dakua, a resident of the area. He was a student of a local madrasa.
It was known that a battery-run vehicle hit Mubin in Narayanpur area in the afternoon while he was crossing the road, which left him dead on the spot.
