The three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh kicks off today at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE, with both teams eager to start strong with a victory.

The match will begin at 4:00 PM (BST).

Bangladesh are aiming to regain its competitive form after a tough spell as they recently suffer 2-0 losses to India in both Test and T20i formats, along with a 2-0 Test series defeat against South Africa. This series also marks their return to ODI cricket after a long break since their last one-day series was against Sri Lanka in March this year, which they won.

Afghanistan meanwhile, made headlines by clinching a historic 2-1 ODI series win over South Africa before this series.

Bangladesh will be without key players Shakib Al Hasan, who is sidelined due to political controversies and Liton Das, who is out with an injury. Furthermore, Nasum Ahmed and Nahid Rana, who arrived just hours before the game due to visa issues, are expected to miss the opener. Soumya Sarkar back in the national team after a long absence, is likely to open with Tanzid Hasan Tamim, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad and Tawhid Hridoy anchor the middle order despite recent form struggles.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the spin attack and contribute as a finisher with the bat, coming off a strong run of form. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is set to return, with Taskin Ahmed, Shariful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman heading up the pace attack.

Afghanistan too, will miss injured players Ibrahim Zadran and Mujeeb Ur Rahman but welcomes back Noor Ahmad to partner Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi in the spin department. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi along with Rahmat Shah, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Bilal Sami, all bring proven skills that can shift the game.

With 10 wins off previous 16 face offs Bangladesh are favourites in this series. But with Sharjah as their home ground for this series, Afghanistan is likely to carry forward its recent momentum and capitalize on familiar conditions.

Known for its short boundaries as well as slow and spin-friendly pitch, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium often favors batters and making it conducive to high scores. Dew is expected in the evening, so the team winning the toss may prefer to bowl first to manage the conditions better.
