Two people died and another was injured from electrocution at Kalmakanda upazila in Netrakona district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in the morning at Bekrikanda village under Pogla union of the upazila.
The deceased were former army personnel Rafiqul Islam, 55, and agricultural laborer Suman Mia, 32, of that village. The injured person was Zaidul Mia, 40.
According to police, they were repairing an electric water pump for irrigating the land behind the house of Rafiqul Islam around 8 am. At that time, Rafiqul came in contact with an electric wire. When the rest two tried to save Rafiqul, both of them got electrocuted by the wire.
Later, locals rescued them and took to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital where doctors declared the two dead. The seriously injured Zaidul was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Kalmakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Feroz Hossain confirmed it.
