A farmer was reportedly killed and at least five others were injured in a clash between two groups in Narail's Kalia upazila on Monday night.
The incident happened around 10 pm at Chandpur village under Purulia union of the upazila.
The victim Sultan Molya, 65, was a resident of that village.
According to police, there was a dispute between the running UP member Jamal Molya group and former UP member Shariful Islam's group at Chanpur village for a long time. Following this, both sides locked into clash with indigenous weapons around 10 pm. Farmer Sultan Molya, a supporter of Shariful, was injured.
He was rescued and taken to Narail Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 12 am.
Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rashidul Islam said, 'Police have been deployed at the scene. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the incident. The body is at Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.'
