10 killed, 3 injured in road accidents

At least 10 people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in five districts on Monday.

Four people were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the link road in front of the toll plaza at the Jazira end of Padma Bridge in Shariatpur.

The deceased are - Arman Dhali son of Dadan Dhali of Dhali Kandi village of Padma South Police Station, Khidir Madbar son of Alim Madbar, Nabil Faraji son of Rubel Faraji of Faraji Kandi village and Sayem Madabar son of Eskander Ali Madabar of Faraji Kandi village.

Padma Setu South Police Station Officer-in-Charge Naqib Akram Hossain said that four people were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles.
 
Legal action in this regard is under process, he said, adding police recovered two motorcycles from the spot.

Two teenagers were killed under the wheels of a truck in Dinajpur's Birampur. The accident took place at Jowalkamara area on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj Highway in the upazila town at 5 pm on Monday.

The deceased are Rifat (17) son of Ziarul Islam of Sarangpur Mohalla of Birampur town and Badsha (16) son of Yunus Ali of Garuhati area of Islampara.

The driver and helper of the truck fled after the accident. Birampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Momtazul Haque said that the truck was seized from the spot.

Uncle and nephew were killed in a collision between a bus and an easybike at Kashiani in Gopalganj. Three people were injured in this incident.

The accident took place on Monday afternoon in Fukra Bazar area on the  Dhaka-Khulna Highway.

The deceased are: Din Islam Khan (25), son of Ahmad Mia of Karpara village of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila and his nephew Sifat alias Hasain (10), son of Masud Khan of the same village. Bhatiapara Highway Police OC Md. Abul Hasem Majumdar quoted eyewitnesses as saying that Din Islam was going to his sister's house Bhatiapara in Kashiani from Karpara in Sadar upazila on an easy bike with his nephew. When they reached the Fukra Bazar area of Kashiani, a Dhaka-bound Rajiv Paribahan bus hit the easy bike.

Both easybike passengers were killed on the spot and three others were injured. The injured were rescued and admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital.

The OC also said that the driver was arrested and the bus seized from Kashiani's Bhatiapara.

In a road accident at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur, the helper of Seven Rings Company's cement mixer truck died tragically. 

At Charmatha Intersection near Ghoraghat bus stand, a cement mixer truck coming from the same direction hit the rear of a sand-laden truck standing on the side of the road, the cement mixer truck twisted in front of the truck on the spot. 

After receiving the news, the body of the helper was recovered by the local fire service and civil defense personnel.

Ghoraghat police station officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque said that the driver and assistant of the sand-laden truck are in police custody after the accident and the driver of the cement mixer truck managed to escape. 

The body of the deceased will be handed over to the family after the necessary legal process in this case.

A woman named Kulsum Begum (40) was killed in a road accident in Chuadanga City. The accident happened in front of Chuadanga Municipality at around 11 o'clock on Monday. The deceased Kulsum Begum Chuadanga is e daughter of Icha Mistry of Bazarpara, Alukdia, Sadar upazila.

Khaledur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar police station, said that a woman suffered injuries on her head after falling from a van. Later, when she was taken to Sadar Hospital, the doctor declared her dead. Legal action will be taken against the van driver.
