The US Embassy in Dhaka launched its “Healthier in Motion” campaign on Monday, aimed at promoting health, nutrition, physical fitness, and mental well-being among women and youth across Bangladesh. This initiative seeks to dismantle social barriers that prevent women and girls from prioritising their health, while fostering a more supportive environment that provides equal opportunities for growth, according to an Embassy release.
USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman emphasised the importance of equal opportunity, saying, "For society to reach its full potential, we must all contribute to ensure that women, girls, and young people have the chance to complete their education, pursue athletics, or achieve their dreams so they can live their best lives."
Nigar Sultana Joty, captain of the Bangladesh National Women's Cricket Team and ambassador for the Healthier in Motion campaign, shared her personal story of resilience and triumph in sports. "Sports not only made me physically and mentally strong, but it also helped me achieve financial independence. I hope this campaign inspires many young women to believe in themselves and chase their dreams," she said.
Campaign ambassadors Zohad Reza Chowdhury, lead singer of the popular band Nemesis, and Shazia Omar, founder of Dhaka Flow and an experienced yoga practitioner, also spoke at the launch, expressing their support for youth and women's empowerment through health and fitness.
