The High Court on Thursday stayed the investigation into the case filed against renowned photographer Shahidul Alam under the Information and Technology (ICT) Act.

The HC bench comprising Justice Md Iqbal Kabir and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by Shahidul Alam.

The HC bench also issued a rule asking the government to explain why the case should not be quashed.

Shahidul Alam had earlier filed a writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the case and sought quashed of the case filed against him.

In the petition, Shahidul said that the case was meant to harass him and it violated the photographer's basic rights. Besides, he claimed the case contains legal errors.
