Land Adviser Hasan Ariff on Monday announced that the field level officials of land administration would now be assigned for only two years in at a station instead of 3 years, so that they could not involve with any corrupt circle nearing the stations.
"There are many allegations of corruptions and irregularities against the field level land officials especially against Tahashilders. But, all allegations are not true. However, we are planning to change recruitment and transfer rules of land officials. I would like to instruct the ministry's senior secretary to amend the rules and include the provision of highest two years at a station," he said while addressing a seminar titled 'Role of Media to Ensure People-friendly Land Services' arranged by the ministry at its Bhumi Bhaban conference room in Dhaka's Tejgaon.
Land Ministry's Senior Secretary Dr ASM Saleh Ahmed presided over the day-long seminar while Land Appeal Board Chairman Muhammad Ibrahim, Land Reform Board Chairman Abdus Sabur Mandol, Department of Land Records and Survey Director General Mohammad Moniruzzaman, ministry's Additional Secretaries Dr Md Ziauddin Ahmed and Emdadul Haque, Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters' Forum President Fosih Uddin Mahtab and General Secretary Masudul Haque also spoke the occasion.
More than 100 journalists working to cover the Secretariat and land issues attended the programme.
At the outset, the organizers arranged a visit to show the activities of the ministry and its associate entities practically.
Regarding corruption and sufferings of people in the sub-registry offices across the country, the Land Adviser said, "The Offices are not under the Land Ministry, these are under the Law Ministry. So, this ministry has nothing to do. But, we are trying to bring the district registration and sub-registry offices back to the land ministry. Once, these are taken, corruption and sufferings will be lessened."
"In 2008, I had brought the offices under the Land Ministry when I was adviser for land and law ministries. But, it was not kept there. Next government changed the decision and sent to back to law ministry again," he added.
In the seminar, the adviser asked the field level land officials to open new holdings for the service seekers within seven days of submission to eliminate their sufferings.
