The Cyber Security Act 2023 will be repealed within a week, said Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam on Monday (November 4).
Besides, the cases filed under the Act, will also be withdrawn, he said.
He said all laws which create obstacle in expressing opinions are being reviewed and decision will be taken for reform with the opinions of the concerned stakeholders, he said.
The adviser said this while Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen called on him at his office at ICT Division on Monday (November 4), a press release of the ministry said.
In reaction to growing criticisms, the then Awami League government replaced the Digital Security Act (DSA) of 2018 with the Cyber Security Act 2023 (CSA).
Nahid said general election would be held on the basis of national unity after all necessary reforms.
"We got a new Bangladesh after mass upsurge of student and people. The fascist government has done many irregularities and corruption in the last 16 years. The interim government has started to rebuild the country," he said.
Nahid sought advices and cooperation of Norway to rebuild the country.
The ambassador assures the adviser to extend all out cooperation to the interim government to rebuild the country.
Nahid Islam said the government wants to develop the relation with Norway as the country is one of the development partners of Bangladesh.
"We expect Norway to invest in ICT sector of Bangladesh to help flourish it," he said.
About the repression on minority, Nahid said minorities in Bangladesh are safe. Special security arrangements were made for them in last Durga Puja, he said.
He said the last fascist government indulged in political games with minorities. They used minorities as vote bank, he added.
Nahid Islam sought cooperation of Norway for publicity of true information about the July uprising as negative campaigns are on outside world on the movement.
During the meeting they also discussed bilateral issues.
Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Dr Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Information Communication Technology Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury and Norway Embassy officials were present.
