Five unnatural deaths in four districts

Five people died in separate unnatural incidents in four districts - Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Madaripur and Kushtia, in recent times.

KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI: Two workers were killed when the wall of a under-construction shop collapsed on them at Kuakata in Kalapara Upazila of the district on Monday noon.

The accident took place in Rakhine Market Temple area of Kuakata at around 12 pm.

The deceased were identified as carpenter Kamal, 40, a resident of Nabinpur area under Kuakata Municipality, and labourer Abu Bakar Mridha, 42, of the same area.

According to local sources, Kamal and Abu Bakar were renovating a shop next to the Kansai Inn Hotel adjacent to Rakhine Market in the morning. 

During the construction of the wooden structure, suddenly the wall of the shop collapsed on them at around 12 pm and the two were crushed under it. Both of them died on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohipur Police Station (PS) Noman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

PIROJPUR: A man died after falling from a coconut tree in the district town on Sunday.

The incident took place in Malaria Pool area on the Parerhat road of the town in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Rasul Sheikh 60, a resident of Boulpur Village under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat District. He was a green coconut seller by profession. 

Local sources said that Rasul Sheikh climbed on a tree in Malaria Pool area to collect green coconuts in the morning. At one stage, he came in contact with a live electric wire, and fell down from the tree, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.
  
Pirojpur Sadar PS OC Md Abdus Sobhan confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

MADARIPUR: A man, who was critically injured after being bitten by a poisonous snake in Kalkini Upazila of the district, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Farhad Sikder, 38, a resident of Jaigir Village in the upazila.

Local sources said that a venomous snake bit Farhad on Thursday afternoon while he was working at his house, which left him critically injured. 

Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and took to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred him to the DMCH following the deterioration of his condition.

Later on, he died at the DMCH on Friday morning while undergoing treatment.

Kalkini PS OC Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A labourer, who along two others was burnt in an oil tanker explosion in Daulatpur Upazila of the district, died at a hospital on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Hossain Ali, son of Hanif Mandal.

It was known that an oil tanker exploded at Mathurapur Boro Bazar in the upazila at around 11 pm on Wednesday while some labourers were unloading the oil for Meem & Jeem Enterprise, which left at least three people critically burnt. Goods worth about Tk 2 crore of the shop were also gutted by the fire at that time.

On information, two units from Bheramara and three units from Gangni Upazila Fire Service Stations of Meherpur rushed in and controlled the blaze after about two and a half hours of frantic effort. They then rescued the injured and took them to a hospital.

Later on, Hossain Ali died at the hospital on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.

Bheramara Fire Service Station Officer Shariful Islam and Daulatpur PS OC Awal Kabir confirmed the incident.
