JHALAKATHI, Nov 4: Students and mass people have jointly opened fair price bazar of vegetables in the district to break market syndicate.

They set the vegetable market at Sadhanar crossing area on Sunday morning. Consumers crowded the market for purchasing vegetables at cheap prices.

Along with students, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ashrafur Rahman took part in selling vegetables.

They are selling per kilogram (kg) pointed gourd at Tk 40, papaya, ash gourd, and cucumber each at Tk 30 per kg, chilli at Tk 110, radish at Tk 35, and per piece bottle gourd at Tk 35.

Besides, several vegetable items are selling at a less price of Tk 10-50 per kg.

Bazar organizers said, vegetable prices are up-ticking due to exchanges of traders' hands; middlemen are making consumers hostage to them.

"We have taken this fair price bazar initiative to break syndicate," they added.

This bazar will continue, they maintained.

Welcoming the joint market of students and mass people, the DC said, some unscrupulous traders are selling vegetables at higher prices in higher profiteering tendency.

If their joint initiative continues, vegetable prices will come down, the DC added.
